What Are My Fortnite Android Requirements?

GCLoot - January 19, 2020

When Fortnite finally became available to Android, we swear you could almost hear the collective exclamation of “hurrah!” from those waiting to get their hands on the popular battle royale game. Epic launched the beta version of Fortnite for Android in mid-October 2018, allowing users who own Android devices (that aren’t just Samsung Galaxy) to finally get a crack at playing it. But what are the Fortnite Android specs required to play this game without a hitch?

To start, Epic’s website offers a QR code you can scan with an Android device. Or you can download the game to your smartphone via fortnite.com/android (it is not available on Google Play). However, there are more requirements needed if you want to play the game optimally. Below are some of the most important ones.

Supported Devices

There is a full list of Fortnite Android supported devices on the Epic site which you can check out to see if your current smartphone or tablet can play it. Of course, if you have a Samsung Galaxy S7 (or a later model), you’re automatically a shoo-in.

But to level the playing field (what an apropos idiom!) for Android users, those who have other devices also have the chance to play Fortnite. Here are some of the supported gadgets, which we helpfully listed in alphabetical order (you’re welcome!):

Enough Storage Device

Aside from having a supported device, your smartphone or tablet should also have enough storage space for the Fortnite app. At least 3GB of storage space is recommended – almost 2GB is needed just to install it on your phone. Since it’s an evolving dynamic game, a bit of wiggle room in your onboard storage is essential. So free up space by deleting unnecessary apps if you must, or get a micro SD card to accommodate even more room.

Minimum RAM

Just in case you don’t find your phone or tablet listed above, there’s still a bit of good news for you. It might even work on your device, provided that it meets the following basic Android minimum requirements.

For starters, it has to have 3GB RAM or higher (4GB seems to be ideal). It should also be running on Android 8.0 or higher, no matter what kind of device you have at the moment. Having a lower RAM or previous versions of Android OS can affect how optimally the game runs, and you wouldn’t want to be caught in a wonky match right in the middle of all that shooting and building action.

Enough GPU Power

Before enjoying this popular massively multiplayer online shooter game, ensure that you have the right GPU for it. There are suitable and recommended graphics processing unit specs for Fortnite. According to the Epic Games FAQ, the following GPUs are just some that meet Fortnite system requirements: Qualcomm Adreno 530 or higher, Mali-G71 MP20, and Mali-G72 MP12 or higher.

While you’re at it, make sure your Android device can support 60FPS (framerate per second). Otherwise, expect some choppiness and overall non-smooth action when you play.

A Steady (and Reliable) Internet Connection

To run Fortnite on your computer, a steady Internet connection is a must so you can play properly. A spotty connection can affect your game’s reaction times, and even how you strategize within the game. Make sure to play where there is an active WiFi connection, and don’t even think about attempting to play using a limited data plan. It’s not practical, and you will just end up regretting it.

Meeting the required Fortnite Android specs will help you enjoy all that Fortnite has to offer without worrying about performance issues. Epic looks to be continuously studying what else they can provide to Android users by way of devices, specs, and other game features so that even more players will have the chance to download and play it.
